Senior Sustainability Consultant

Our Sustainability team provides advice to a range of clients on sustainability in the built environment, including developing energy and sustainability strategies for masterplans and individual buildings in the UK and internationally.

You will be responsible for taking a leading role in delivering sustainability analysis and advice, environmental and carbon assessments across a range of projects, to meet our clients’ aspirations. You will have responsibility for managing a small team in the delivery of sustainability on our projects, including bespoke strategies as well as assessment methodologies including BREEAM, LEED, WELL, etc.

You will also take an active role in marketing the company’s sustainability goals and activities, raising the profile of the Sustainability team and services offered, and promoting sustainable outcomes across all disciplines in the business.

Primary Responsibilities

Business Development and Marketing
  • Assist in promoting the Meinhardt brand
  • Assist in raising the profile and reputation of Meinhardt Sustainability
  • Attend sustainability focused conferences and events
  • Participate in industry working groups
  • Contribute to company marketing activities
  • Contribute articles to industry publications
  • Develop a network of contacts
Company/Team Role
  • Be a proactive member of the energy and sustainability team
  • Take an active role in developing a culture of sustainability across all disciplines of the business.
  • Assist in providing sustainability training to staff throughout the business
  • Lead cross-discipline sustainability workshops and working groups
  • Contribute to the development of company procedures
  • Apply policies relating to health & safety, quality and training
  • Contribute to marketing and fee bids
Project Role
  • To manage and lead the delivery of sustainable solutions on individual projects
  • Management/financial awareness
  • Ability to supervise a small team of engineers and consultants
  • Act as the Lead Consultant on projects of various sizes
  • On major/more complex projects support an Associate/Associate Director or Director
  • Interact with other parts of the Company and the external team to deliver co-ordinated solutions for each project.

Energy/Sustainability Function
  • Demonstrate a wide ranging knowledge in relation to all areas of sustainable development.
  • Delivery of energy and sustainability team output, including:
    • Energy and Sustainability strategies
    • SAP calculations and domestic EPCs
    • Non-domestic SBEM calculations and non-domestic EPCs
    • Overheating modelling
    • Energy audits and assessments
    • Whole life carbon assessments
    • Circular economy statements
    • BREEAM assessments
    • Sustainability options assessments
  • Ensure that the Quality System procedures are adhered to
  • Responsible attitude and actively undertake training
  • Lead external workshops and design team meetings
  • Carry out surveys of existing facilities and preparation of reports
  • Agree design philosophy/design fundamentals
  • Review and comment on deliverables produced by engineers and Consultants at key stages through a project.
  • Keeping up to date with current and emerging legislation, Planning Policies and trends.

Specific skills, knowledge, competencies and training

Qualifications:
  • Degree qualified in a related discipline preferred
  • Chartered Status preferred
  • Minimum five years experience
Essential:
  • Wide ranging knowledge in relation to all areas of sustainable development
  • Ability to complete whole-life carbon assessments using OneClick software
  • Detailed understanding of certification schemes such as BREEAM/WELL/FitWell/LEED/HQM
  • Knowledge of façade performance and U-value calculations
  • Knowledge of Energy Auditing and Assessment
  • Knowledge of daylight calculations
  • Knowledge of RIBA stages of work
  • Knowledge of BSRIA scope of works
Desirable:
  • SAP Assessor.
  • Level 5 IES thermal modelling accreditation
  • BREEAM Assessor
  • Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical design
