Structural Modelling Technician

Successful candidate will be required to assist the Project BIM Lead with the ongoing development of the Structural Model and delivery of project deliverables under the direction of the BIM Manager, in accordance with any company and/or project specific standards and procedures. As a member of the project team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Project BIM Execution Plan is adhered to and that all related BIM activities are carried out as instructed.

General Responsibilities

  • Work with minimal supervision in defined areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure company and/or project specific standards are adhered to and standard methods and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for checking the quality and accuracy of own work; and
  • Responsible for meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Ensure BIM Execution plan and Project Standards are adhered to by project team.
  • Use Revit to create and modify Structural Models.
  • Create, modify and review 3D models using computer aided design (CAD) applications including but not limited to: Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max.
  • Be able to read and understand Architectural drawings and models and produce Structural Models, drawings and details under the guidance of a Structural Engineer.
  • Be able to model, draw and detail structural elements and modify custom families where necessary.
  • Produce models, layouts, detailed drawings, and schedules and when required produce visualisations from 3D models for use in technical reports, presentations and marketing material.
  • Graphically translate verbal and visual instructions and carryout revisions accordingly.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documentation accurately representing engineering and design intent.
  • Prepare models for exchange and coordination with other disciplines, consultants and contractor/fabricators.
  • Demonstrate capability and experience in delivering projects in a dynamic, design lead environment.

  • Knowledge of Revit, Navisworks and AutoCAD.
  • Interest in 3rd party BIM applications including but not limited to Dynamo, 3DS Max, Rhino/Grasshopper, Google Earth and Solibri as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Overarching interest in Architecture and Building Engineering/Services design.
  • A desire to learn and a willingness to adapt.
  • Self-motivated and actively demonstrates a positive approach towards work.
  • Can follow instructions and carry out tasks to the required standard, accurately, on time and unsupervised; and
  • Takes responsibility for the tasks assigned to them and ensures that they are carried out on time and to the required standard.

Qualifications

  • Industry relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification; Professional Degree Preferred

Experience

  • Minimum one to two years experience in the Structural Engineering sector with at least two years of BIM/Revit experience.
