A new 16 storey apart-hotel to be located on the site of an existing four storey building previously used by Royal Mail as a return packet centre.

Located opposite Portsmouth and Southsea Railway Station, the new building will provide a landmark for Portsmouth and aims to kick-start the regeneration of the surrounding area.

Meinhardt was appointed to carry out the Civil and Structural Design. The structure consists of reinforced concrete frame with a central stability core and perimeter columns to maximise floor space. It also includes a three storey steel plant enclosure at roof level and a steel transfer structure at second floor above the communal areas, with openings for integration of services.

The existing single-storey basement structure is partially re-used to simplify temporary works within challenging ground conditions.
