Associate - Highways

Meinhardt are expanding the team in Birmingham to cover international and domestic projects in the public and private sector. We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced Civil Engineers at all levels from Graduate/Technician to Associate level, initially with Highways and infrastructure knowledge and experience. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on significant international projects and expand your experience.

This role is to be a senior member of the team responsible for managing the delivery of first class design solutions on highways, infrastructure and drainage projects. The role will involve working within a team and liaison with the wider Meinhardt specialists including specialist sub-contractors. It will involve working on International projects with the exciting challenges of coordination and liaison with local authorities and specialists and representing Meinhardt in wider client team meetings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordination of multidisciplinary engineering teams, overseas and UK based
  • Management of the design process from concept to construction
  • Technical input to design solutions
  • Prepare and review technical reports and specifications
  • Technical review of design packages for major highway schemes
  • Manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes
  • Input to bid documents, prepare briefs and scope of works
  • Ensure Quality Assurance standards are maintained in line with company policy
  • Mentoring and development of the team
  • Liaison and coordination with specialist sub consultants to ensure seamless delivery and aligned high quality output
  • Form excellent relationship with the client team, other disciplines, and contractors
  • Represent Meinhardt at team and client meetings to discuss design coordination/interfaces and cost efficiencies.

Key Skills/Experience

Essential
  • Degree in Civil Engineering and minimum two year post qualification relevant experience
  • Chartered Engineer with the ICE (MICE or FICE)
  • Experience leading a design team, mentoring junior team members
  • CDM knowledge and experience
  • Construction site experience
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Drainage design experience including flood alleviation, SUDS, major highways and liaison with authorities
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant industry software, AutoCad, Civils 3D, MicroDrainage, MS Project etc.
  • Ground modelling and pavement design knowledge and experience
  • Major highway design coordination experience including alignment, pavement, drainage, signing, ITS, lighting etc.
  • Project Lifecycle Inception to Delivery
  • Knowledge and experience of working within BIM environment
Desirable
  • Experience of working on large international projects is desirable
  • Developing good relationships external design consultants, client and local authorities
  • Working within BIM environment
  • Input into bid proposals, prepare briefs and scopes of work
  • Ability to plan project resources and monitor job financial performances
